The Best Locations for a Couple Session in Medellín, Colombia

A curated guide to photographing your love story in Medellín

Medellín is a city of contrasts.

Tropical greenery meets contemporary architecture. Colorful streets lead into quiet parks. Traditional Antioquian architecture sits alongside modern cafés, local art and vibrant neighborhoods.

For couples visiting Colombia, this makes Medellín an extraordinary place for a photography session.

Rather than choosing a single landmark, I prefer to create a small visual journey through the city, selecting locations that feel natural, beautiful and connected to the character of Medellín.

These are some of my favorite locations for couple sessions, especially for couples looking for something more personal and editorial than a traditional tourist experience.

01. Manila

Local, tropical and effortlessly stylish

Manila is one of my favorite areas in El Poblado for photographs that feel distinctly Medellín without feeling overly touristy.

The neighborhood combines colorful façades, traditional houses, balconies, tropical plants, cafés and small streets with a relaxed atmosphere.

It works beautifully for photographs of a couple simply walking, talking, holding hands or stopping for a coffee.

For an early morning session, Manila is particularly beautiful before the streets become busy.

My approach

I usually begin with a walk through the quieter streets, using the architecture and vegetation as a backdrop, and can incorporate a coffee stop into the session.

For couples who want their photographs to feel like they actually experienced Medellín, rather than simply visited a landmark, Manila is one of my first recommendations.

02. Provenza + Lleras

Tropical, cosmopolitan and sophisticated

Provenza is one of Medellín’s most recognizable neighborhoods and has gained international attention for its combination of greenery, cafés, restaurants, design and nightlife.

For photography, however, I prefer looking beyond the busiest sections.

The surrounding streets offer beautiful foliage, architecture, balconies, textured walls and small details that create a much more sophisticated visual environment.

• Cafés and lifestyle images
• Couples who prefer a sophisticated urban setting

A morning session is ideal here because the neighborhood feels considerably more relaxed before the day’s activity begins.

03. Parque Lineal La Presidenta

Greenery in the heart of El Poblado

One of the most useful locations for couples who want nature without leaving El Poblado.

La Presidenta follows the creek through a green corridor with trees, pedestrian paths and small bridges. It provides a completely different visual environment from the surrounding streets.

• A quieter atmosphere

This is one of my favorite locations to combine with Manila.

The two locations are close enough to create a session that moves naturally from urban Medellín to tropical greenery without feeling repetitive.

04. Parque de El Poblado

A more local side of El Poblado

The Parque de El Poblado and its surrounding streets provide a more urban and local interpretation of the neighborhood.

Rather than using the park itself for the entire session, I prefer to explore the surrounding architecture, streets, trees and small details.

• Combining with nearby locations

It can work particularly well as part of a larger El Poblado route rather than as a standalone destination.

05. La Guayacana

A quieter, greener side of the city

Located in Envigado, La Guayacana offers a much more natural environment.

The park is open from early morning, making it suitable for the 7:00-8:00 AM sessions I recommend. La Guayacana Park

This is a particularly good option for couples who want their photographs to feel less urban and more connected to the landscape of Antioquia.

06. Pueblito Paisa & Cerro Nutibara

For photographs that feel unmistakably Colombian

If your priority is to have photographs that immediately communicate Colombia, this is one of the strongest options.

Pueblito Paisa recreates the architecture and atmosphere of a traditional Antioquian village, with colorful façades, stone streets, gardens, a small church and traditional details. It sits on Cerro Nutibara, surrounded by one of Medellín’s important green areas.

The hill also offers ecological trails, sculptures and natural areas beyond the main square.

My recommendation

For couples coming from abroad, this is one of the locations I would recommend when they specifically want their photographs to have a strong Colombian identity.

The combination of traditional architecture and tropical greenery gives us much more variety than photographing only the village square.

07. Parques del Río

Modern Medellín meets nature

Parques del Río represents a very different side of the city.

The project created approximately 71,800 m² of public space, including more than 38,000 m² of green areas and hundreds of trees. It was designed to reconnect the city with the Medellín River and create a large pedestrian and environmental corridor.

• Modern architecture
• Minimalist portraits
• Contemporary editorial photography
• Greenery
• Wide open spaces
• Urban Medellín

It is also one of the locations where photography can naturally incorporate the city’s architecture and landscape without relying on traditional tourist imagery.

There is also a gastronomic offering within the park, making it possible to extend the experience beyond the photographs.

08. Parque Lineal La Frontera

Quiet, green and understated

La Frontera offers another interpretation of the south side of Medellín and El Poblado.

It is a good option for couples who prefer a quieter environment, greenery and a more relaxed pace.

• Couples who prefer less tourist-oriented locations

This is a location I would choose when the couple wants the photographs to feel intimate and organic rather than iconic.

09. Astorga, La Matriarca & the graffiti streets

The colorful, artistic side of El Poblado

Around Astorga and the streets near La Matriarca, we can find a different visual language: graffiti, colorful walls, architecture, restaurants and the energy of El Poblado.

It is particularly interesting for couples who want a more fashion-forward or urban session.

La Matriarca itself adds an interesting Colombian gastronomic element to the experience, with Colombian cuisine, brunch and café offerings. Restaurante La Matriarca

For a 7:00 AM session, however, I would use the surrounding streets first and incorporate the restaurant later when it opens.

Start among the architecture, cafés and tropical streets of Manila, then move into the greenery of La Presidenta.

Best for couples looking for elegant, natural and editorial photographs without a heavily touristy feeling.

✦ For a Modern Medellín Experience

Provenza + Astorga

Street art, tropical architecture, cafés, restaurants and the contemporary energy of El Poblado.

Best for couples who want something more urban, fashionable and cosmopolitan.

Why I Recommend Starting at 7:00 AM

For couple sessions in Medellín, I strongly prefer an early start.

7:00-8:00 AM gives us softer morning light, quieter streets and a much more relaxed experience.

It also allows us to photograph locations such as Manila, Provenza and El Poblado before they become significantly busier.

And when the location allows it, we can finish with a coffee or breakfast, turning the photography session into part of the experience rather than simply an hour of taking photographs.

Find Your Location

Every couple is different.

Some want colorful Colombian architecture. Others prefer lush greenery, modern architecture, cafés or something more editorial.

My role is not simply to take you to a beautiful place. It is to find the location, light and atmosphere that best fits you.
